Diwali parking in NYC: ASP and other rules for November 8, 2026
Direct answer: ASP is scheduled to be suspended on Sunday, November 8, 2026 for Diwali. Other posted parking restrictions still apply; this is not a general free-parking day.
What changes and when it applies
NYC DOT's calendar lists November 8, 2026 as an alternate side parking suspension for street cleaning. This is a scheduled suspension, not advance confirmation of every notice that may be in effect that day.
Meters and other posted signs
This date does not carry the major-legal-holiday asterisk. The ASP suspension does not waive meters or create exemptions from other posted restrictions. Check the hours and pay the meter when required; do not treat the holiday as a general free-parking day.
What you can do
You can check the scheduled ASP suspension and read the signs for the space before leaving the car. If another restriction prevents parking during your visit, choose another location.
What you cannot do
You cannot infer an exception for a different sign just because ASP is suspended. Do not copy another driver's choice or assume an empty space permits parking.
Practical example
For example, if you choose a space with a street-cleaning sign and a separate restriction, check both. The ASP suspension resolves the cleaning rule for this date; before walking away, check whether the other sign still limits your stay. This helps avoid confusion, blocked access and time lost searching for another space.
Same-day status and unexpected changes
Check NYC311 and its ASP status references on the day. Emergencies and weather may cause changes; the annual calendar does not confirm them in advance. Check temporary notices and posted signs at the space as well. This guide confirms no access or parking privileges for any nearby site.
Official sources and quick rule
Review the NYC DOT suspension calendar and the official 2026 PDF calendar. Quick rule: check ASP, then the meter and other signs; each restriction needs its own check.
FAQ
Does an ASP suspension let me ignore other signs?
No. Check the restrictions for the space and the specific exceptions DOT documents for the date.
How Spotlink helps
Ticket Guard can help with a reminder to return to the car. Set it for the applicable restriction after checking the signs; a reminder does not authorize parking.
